How to Take Your Style From So-So to Whoa

Thought personal stylists were reserved for the rich and famous? Wrong! As Dallas’ premier personal styling service, Front Door Fashion connects real women with professional fashion stylists–those who make it their mission to help each client look and feel her best in every outfit she wears. As for us, well, we had a few wardrobe woes of our own, so we booked a Style Session to see what the process was all about, and to take you behind-the-scenes with us on our journey.

The Prep

To book a Style Session at Front Door Fashion’s Design District studio, start by completing the online Style Profile and answering a few questions about your preferences and price points. This is the time to be detailed—it’ll pay off in your Style Session, trust us. Based on your responses, the FDF team will work behind the scenes to match you with your perfect stylist, who will contact you to book an appointment. Then, you’re ready to be styled.

The Main Event

Upon arriving at the studio, your stylist is there to greet you and take you back to your own style lounge. In our case, her name is Morgan, and she’s wearing all the right things, styled all the right ways. Our outfits, on the flip side, were just a little less put-together than Morgan’s… Clearly, we were right where we need to be.

front-door-fashion-choosing-clothesWalking back into the lounge, six carefully curated outfits are lined up, waiting for their moment in the mirror. The looks range from casual to dressy, and even from sexy to professional. Rows of jewelry from designers like Kendra Scott and Gorjana sit on a table, just begging to be paired with the perfect outfit. Lofty and open, the entire area is designed to make you feel comfortable and at ease, just like trying clothes on at home.

A glass of champagne? Yes, please! With a glass of bubbly in hand, we’re ready to sit back, relax and get styled. It’s an hour and a half of wardrobe changes, and it’s well worth the time.

The first look is composed of a sleeveless top, DL1961 olive jeans and a Michele Stars kimono, and it’s a major win. This outfit is already right up our alley, but Morgan isn’t afraid to take it a step further. She wraps the kimono into a scarf and adds a Tart moto vest for an added touch of edginess, and we’re even more taken with the look than before. Obviously, this girl knows what she’s doing.

An office-ready Nicole Miller fit-and-flare dress is beautiful on its own, but Morgan adds an Elise M belt and Trina Turk blazer with the sleeves scrunched just right for added flare. It’s an outfit we wouldn’t initially pick ourselves—but it’s a total knockout.

Just as Morgan does with us, the FDF stylists guide you through each outfit in your Style Session, offering tips and tricks that give each look a little added oomph—tips on how to roll sleeves, suggestions on how to make a jacket more slimming, how to properly front tuck a shirt; the works.

The Finale

Expect to be blown away by just how well the clothes fit, and by how much the stylists understand your taste before you even walk through the door. But still, it’s important be open to trying different types of looks–your stylist just might be onto something. While you’re sure to love pieces you feel safe in, your stylist will also recommend items that challenge you to stretch your comfort zone. Again, don’t be shy—they really know what they’re doing.

front-door-fashion-racksAt the end of your session, pick whatever pieces you like–there’s no obligation to take home anything you don’t absolutely love. When you walk out, you won’t just be leaving with all your favorite pieces– you’ll head out with an extra boost of confidence, too.

Now, this styling experience isn’t limited to those who can drop by FDF’s studio. Whether you’re an out-of-towner or just don’t have time to come in, anyone can access FDF’s personal stylists through their box service. Following the same procedure as with the Style Session, all you have to do is create an account, complete the Style Profile and opt for the box. Your stylist will be in touch to finalize your order, and shortly thereafter you’ll receive four to six outfits complete with detailed style notes. Try on everything in the comfort of your own home, on your own time–just send back anything you don’t want after five days, and you’ll only pay for the items you keep. Oh, and have we mentioned the shipping is free both ways?

Really, this is how shopping should’ve been all along.
