Built To Last

Home builder Sharif & Munir creates long-term relationships.

When it comes to building quality homes, Mickey Munir and Michael Munir, father-and-son owners of Sharif & Munir, believe that transparency is key. They begin by looking at a client’s needs, wants, and wishes. “Sometimes wishes are exciting, but those might be the items that explain why the budget isn’t coming in where it needs to,” Michael says. He stresses the importance of value engineering from the planning stages and says that their approach to trying to figure out accurate costs at the very beginning sets them apart from many of their competitors. “Our market is more competitive than it has been in the last 20 years. People who are building are getting multiple quotes on a project, but that doesn’t always lead to realistic numbers. We spend a lot of time trying to figure out what the true costs are upfront. Sometimes people don’t like to hear that. But I’d rather give you the truth before you’re really invested and don’t have anywhere to go,” he says.

Michael advises putting together a team that includes your architect, builder, and interior designer long before the foundation is poured. “Collectively, that team should be able to help a homeowner with site selection and procurement, feasibility studies, and overall project budgeting,” he says.

Home styles have certainly changed in the 37 years that Sharif & Munir has been doing business—contemporary and modern styles are giving French and Mediterranean some competition—and the company has added renovations and high-rise real estate to their portfolio. But their commitment to building high-quality spaces remains unchanged. “Quality of construction can’t be specified nor can the level of expertise and supervision that a builder has,” Michael says. “We consistently offer the best building experience we can deliver, and we provide a referral from the homeowners we just worked with attesting to that.”
