Deep Ellum welcomed a new brick-and-mortar over the weekend from an out-of-town brand: Kristin Cavallari’s Uncommon James. The former Laguna Beach and Very Cavallari star’s arrival in Dallas has been planned for years. But it’s been delayed for, well, obvious reasons.

“I still feel like I have to pinch myself, like I’m in a dream,” Cavallari says. “This has been a long time coming and I made the decision to open up Dallas almost two years ago and came to look at spaces before the pandemic.”

Although the plan was paused for a bit, Uncommon James has finally arrived. This is Cavallari’s third storefront. Her flagship is in Nashville and another brick-and-mortar is in Chicago. In true Dallas fashion, her grand opening celebration featured a larger-than-life balloon arch around the Main Street entrance. Cavallari and her team designed the store’s interior with Texas in mind; guests are greeted by a gold-clad longhorn affixed above the fireplace.

“The Dallas girl really embodies who we are as a company,” Cavallari says. “She’s fashionable, she’s fun, she’s sassy, she’s confident.”

In the Dallas store, timeless pieces of jewelry are displayed at every turn. Inspired by her wide array of life experiences, travel, and exposure to fashion around the globe, Cavallari’s brand is versatile and affordable. Each piece is crafted to be worn day or night, accented by delicate metals and gemstones.

Cavallari believes her Luxe necklace will resonate quickest with the Dallas shopper. She’d style it with a t-shirt, jeans, and boots in true Texas fashion, or a little black dress for a nighttime look. She also says Texans will love the Fighter necklace, a gold longhorn that is prominently featured in the store. Lastly, she pointed out the Girl Boss hoops, which come in four different sizes and are popular with buyers across the country. Each of these pieces is effortless, dainty, and easy to mix and match with what you already own, she says.

“Texas has always been a huge supporter of Uncommon James,” Cavallari says. “I feel like the Texas Girl really gets me, and I really get her, so it just feels nice to be here.”

Giving back is at the heart of the Uncommon James brand, and Cavallari has collaborated with Tennessee-based Mother to Mother. Because the Dallas store just opened, the reality star says local nonprofit collaborations are still in the works. The store will soon create a team to focus on community efforts, just like at the other two locations. When it comes to philanthropy, mothers are near and dear to her heart, and she says she wants to give back by providing moms with essentials that are vital to the well-being of their babies.

“I have three kids and I can’t imagine being a mom and not having all the essentials that you need,” Cavallari says. “I think being a new mom is hard enough [without] having to worry about if you have diapers or not.”

Cavallari has another big development in the works. She’ll soon be adding skincare to her brand. Uncommon Beauty launches May 13 and will offer clean skincare products. For the past decade and a half, says Cavallari, one of the most common questions she’s asked is what’s your skincare routine? She had her go-to products sent off for testing, and to her surprise, they weren’t as clean as she thought. So, she decided to take matters into her own hands and create products she could stand behind and use herself. The first installment of Uncommon Beauty will include five products, all created to nourish the skin.

In addition to jewelry and skincare, the Deep Ellum store will stock home goods and a line of apparel for children, Little James.

Uncommon James is open now at 2618 Main Street; shop Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., or Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Follow @uncommonjames for store updates and events.
