This Saturday, we celebrate one of Dallas’ most cherished institutes. Yes, NorthPark Center is turning the big 5-0, which fills me with all kinds of nostalgia. NorthPark is more than just a mall; it’s a haven. It’s where I discovered Neiman Marcus, and bought my first pair of Tory Burch flats (practically a necessity during my freshman year at SMU). The notorious shopping center has always been there for me when I don’t know what to do with my life (or afternoon). Basically, NorthPark, I’d just be lost without you.

So without further adieu, here is a quick breakdown of Saturday’s events to help you plan your celebration of this great pantheon of Dallas style.

Art Meets Fashion: 1965 – 2015

{takes place all day}

Revisit some of the greatest looks from the 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond when the University of North Texas’ Fashion Collection presents 29 ensembles from the last 50 years. DJ Lucy Wrubel sets it all to music from noon to 5pm.

Kim Dawson Model Search

{11 – 1:30pm | NorthCourt}

Girls ages 13 to 22 and guys ages 15 to 24, don’t miss your chance to be discovered. The Dallas-based modeling agency will be on the hunt for the next fresh face in fashion on level 1 between Nordstrom and Macy’s.

The ABC’s of Back to School Style

{3pm| NorthCourt}

Send your littles back to school in style. This year’s fashion show is free to the public, and features looks from Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Dillard’s, GAP, Banana Republic, Janie & Jack and more.

Birthday Cake Celebration

{4pm | NorthCourt}

It’s not really a birthday celebration without a cake. End the day’s festivities with a free slice plus a few special surprises.

Ongoing Merriments

{Throughout the day | Probably in NorthCourt}

Enjoy special performances from locally based groups like the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Youth Strings, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Cancer Blows, European Strings Quartet, Creative Arts Center and Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico presented by AT&T Performing Arts Center.
