Heroes & Handbags

I had the chance to attend an amazing event, Heroes and Handbags, held at the Hilton Anatole this morning. Bag Snob Tina Craig (who accessorized a pink frock by local designer Khanh Nguyen with a white mini-Birkin bag and her Jimmy Choo ‘Clue’ shoes)
invited me along with Texas Monthly’s Style Editor Kristie Ramirez, V.O.D.‘s Jackie Bolin, and The Fashionista‘s founder Heidi Dillon (who is preparing for the filming to begin of a reality show about mother-daughter Fashionista’s that will air this fall on the Style Network) to sit at her table. The event raises funds for the nonprofit organization Heroes for Children (started in 2004 by Jenny Scott and Larissa Linton), which provides financial support to Texas families with children (0-22) battling cancer. Much of the $2 Million they have raised so far is due to generous designers, retailers, and celebrities who donate vintage and designer handbags (we’re talking Chanel, Gucci, YSL, Fendi, and more) to the silent auction. Amongst the bevy of bags, were a few by Texas designers such as Elaine Turner (who donated several-pictured above), Nicole Musselman Boykin, and Be & D (who is featured in the current issue of D). Guys, if you are feeling left out, you can participate in upcoming events like the Golf Classic on October 23 or the “men only” event, Hold’Em for Heroes, on November 12. Follow the jump for pics of bags that were up for auction, including the one that I scored!

I bid and won this small cream studded hobo that Be & D donated!

Here are some of the other bags that were up for auction:

Chloe!

Gucci!

Hermes!

YSL!
