In Honor of Saint Patrick

I think we can all agree, St. Patty’s Day weekend in Big D is no day to fret with health and wellness. Give in, and count the green beer as a veggie. I know you’ll all be at the parade (at least the hip kids among us), but here are a few other options for your weekend, plus two on Tuesday, which is actually St. Patrick’s Day.

1. I’ve already told you about the fantastic promotion at the Hotel Palomar here, but they’re also participating in a charity shoe recycling drive for The Shoe Bank. If you donate a pair of new or gently used adult athletic shoes (or two pair for the kiddos), you’ll get a 30 percent discount for a future Deluxe or Spa King guest room stay. You can drop your kicks off anytime from today, Friday, March, 13, through St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17.

2. The Tipperary Inn has a full day planned for tomorrow. Catch the Liverpool vs. Manchester United game at 7:30 a.m. before the parade. Very Euro. Breakfast is also served. Green eggs and kegs, perhaps? Then head to Greenville, where you can see the Tipp’s float proudly parading down the ave. After, however, go straight back for the after-party. No cover. Live music by Shift from 1 to 5, Hard Night’s Day from 9 to 1 a.m., and Irish Step Dancing somewhere in between.

3. It’s a special game night at the Belmont Hotel this Tuesday. Enjoy the usual diversions—spoons, cards, dominos, Trivial Pursuit—with Irish drink specials, including Guinness and Harp for $4 and Jameson’s Wiskey for $5. Win great prizes “worth a Leprechaun’s pot of gold.” Sign me up.

4. Valentine’s is for the ladies. St. Patrick’s Day can be for the men. For a (insert Irish equivalent of romantic here) dinner this Tuesday, head to Olenjack’s Grille for an Irish Beer Dinner. Best part—it’s a three-course prix-fixe menu for $20 per person. Take that, recession.
