The largest coffe and baked goods chain in the world announced yesterday the launch of DDSmart, Dunkin’s first menu of “better-for-you” options, available at participating DDs nationwide in August. What does that mean, exactly? Special menu items will have 25 percent fewer calories; 25 percent less sugar, fat, saturated fat, or sodium than comparable fare; and/or contain ingredients that are nutritionally beneficial, like iron and fiber. Awesome, right? Well, almost awesome. There are no actual donuts on the DDSmart menu. So, if you can cut through the thick, sugary air in the store and muster enough willpower at the counter to forgo that ooey, gooey ring of love, you can opt for the egg white turkey sandwich on toasted multigrain flatbread. Good luck. My only suggestion in this 100 degree Dallas heat is to pass on the milk. It’s a bad choice.
