When choosing Hot Properties, I tend to avoid mega-mansions and select warm and welcoming family homes instead, the kind that you can picture entering for a laid-back birthday party or a summer barbecue. (Pre-pandemic, of course. We all have to dream for the time being.) Cheery midcentury builds in Lakewood, 1920s cottages in the M Streets, the occasional contemporary in the Park Cities–all beautiful homes, but without the intimidating aura of an opulent estate.
Bella Luce Manor is tucked inside a gated Westlake community called Quail Hollow, where it sits on top of a slight hill. A rounded stone driveway guides guests to the front door.
Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows illuminate each room. (And there are many–six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, a wine cellar, an exercise room, a lounge area with a wet bar, and more.)
The kitchen is covered in white and gold, with waterfall Carrara marble counters, metallic pendant lights, and exposed beams. Through a doorway is a “baker’s kitchen” or “caterer’s kitchen” for preparing food without disturbing guests or dirtying the main kitchen.
Upstairs, the master bath’s coved ceiling and white marble floors reflect the sunlight from a wall of French doors. There’s a standalone tub in the center, and a tiny glass room houses the double-headed shower. A second-floor terrace with arched openings offers sweeping views of the lake below.
In the backyard, a resort-style pool includes a tanning ledge, a spa, and cascading waterfalls. A putting green is nestled to one side. The rolling lawn leads right up to the shores of the lake, and the house’s reflection glimmers on its surface as the sun goes down.

Today, however, I’m making an exception. 1876 Lakeshore Drive may be 15,00o square feet and have a $9.8 million price tag, but somehow this massive home feels, well, homey. It also has its own moniker, Bella Luce Manor, which roughly translates to ‘beautiful light’–an apt description for a sun-drenched house by a glittering lake.
