Springbrook Street is a quiet, tree-lined road just off Abbott Avenue that was once full of small, storied houses. These days, most of the remaining builds have had facelifts. New construction pops up regularly on the coveted empty lots.

3518 Springbrook Street, which still sports an old-school façade, stands out. A few years ago, according to Google Earth, the home was cream and black, with a shingled roof and traditional wood accents. It was an authentic look that would be welcome in the M Streets, but not in the ever-evolving neighborhoods that line Fitzhugh Avenue.

Now, the home’s exterior has a moody blue-gray palette, fresh landscaping, and an inviting porch swing. It’s a respectful revamp, showing off the home’s signature style while complementing its modern neighbors.

The home’s interior also beautifully balances old and new aesthetics. In the living room, for example, cool white walls and vaulted ceilings allow the stained glass accents to shine. In the kitchen, light gray cabinetry and chrome accents are paired with a triptych of traditional arched windows. The downstairs game room’s retro stone flooring is offset by a monochrome color scheme and a chic black pool table.

Head upstairs to admire the primary suite, which offers soaring ceilings and windows so high they’re almost skylights. The space is roomy enough to accommodate a seating area in front of the stone fireplace. The spa-like master bath has herringbone tile, floating cabinets, and heated floors; the walk-in closet includes a door to a private second-story patio.

In the backyard, the garage looks more like a swanky guest house, and a stone-lined pool is shaded by towering bamboo shoots. You’ll also find an outdoor grill, seating area, and fenced-in side yard that can double as a dog run.
