From Spring Summer 2013
“My mother has always had a quest for learning new things, her openness allows her to see things in a different light. When I was younger, we were always trying the latest (read: the only one at the time) Indian restaurant, or she was cooking some new exotic recipe at home. She loved to make things by hand, from her Art Ball gown that she encased in cracked eggshells to a necklace made from the numerical wooden blocks we used to learn math. I loved to help her with her projects, learning from a young age that I, too, could make things myself. She strongly influenced my love of art and creativity. One of my favorite things to do as a designer is handcrafted embroideries. Much of this comes from watching her create things from scratch.”
