Guests use an Instax camera to snap instant wallet-size photos as the afternoon unfolds.

In lieu of opening gifts during the shower, attendees focused on more personal gestures. Each guest posed for a photo with the mother-to-be; pictures were placed in a memory book alongside bits of advice, words of wisdom, and well wishes written to honor the occasion. During the meal, the ladies passed the book around the table and read their words aloud.

Lisa Garza used a combination of iconic spode serving pieces and utilitarian steel buckets to create visual interest on the buffet

French 75
makes one
1 oz. New Amsterdam Gin
¾ oz. lemon juice
½ oz. simple syrup
Splash of Champagne
Pour gin, juice, and syrup into a shaker. Add ice and shake hard for five seconds. Pour into mixing glass and use a julep strainer to strain into a flute. Top with Champagne and garnish with a lemon twist.

Sissy’s Cucumber Cooler
makes one
2 ½-inch-thick cucumber slices
1 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. simple syrup
(¾ oz. for less sweetness)
1 oz. elderflower syrup
3 oz. Sprite
Splash of soda
Spritz of orange blossom water
Muddle cucumber in a shaker glass. Add lime juice, simple syrup, and two or three large ice cubes. Shake for 30 seconds. Pour into an 8-ounce mason jar or Collins glass. Top off with Sprite. Garnish with a thin slice of cucumber, splash of soda, and spritz of orange blossom water.

A nature-inspired palette punctuated with pops of lemon yellow set the stage for an elegant but down-to-earth event. Clusters of unscented white flowers gave texture and warmth to the space without distracting from the food.
