When Dallas native Dr. Howard E. Anderson, Jr., a 1988 graduate of South Oak Cliff High School, was growing up, he noticed there weren’t many primary care practices in his community. He knew two things—he wanted to become a doctor and he would make sure that people in his community had access to quality medical care. The Anderson Medical Group of Texas (AMG) was established to promote the health and well-being of patients in southern Dallas County. Dr. Anderson has practiced internal medicine for more than two decades. Board certified in internal medicine, he places a focus on preventive medicine as well as the management of chronic care conditions. He operates his practice with the AMG Impact in mind—Investment, Innovation, and Inspiration.

Investment. “We invest in our patients as well as in the community,” he says. “No two patients are the same; every patient is unique to me. I take this uniqueness and develop medical treatment plans based on this.”

Innovation. “Whenever possible, we use technology to improve patient care, such as identifying those in need of certain medical screens and following up to make sure they get them,” Dr. Anderson says. “We also utilize technology through telemedicine with virtual visits. This was a huge resource for patients during the pandemic. Technology allows us to treat patients beyond the four walls of our clinic.”

Inspiration. “I want to inspire the future generation and encourage people to continue their interest and journey in healthcare,” Dr. Anderson says. “I do this through mentorship and externships and internships for students in high school all the way through medical residency programs.”

In addition to being an ordained minister, Dr. Anderson also serves as a board member of the Dallas Methodist Physician Network, the University of North Texas at Dallas Foundation, and the High School for Health Professions at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center.
