As a child, Dr. Claire Chu watched the U.S.President award the National Medal of Science to her father in Washington, D.C. “Seize the day,” her father would tell her. The excitement of publishing research discoveries in top science journals was unparalleled, but she found her true passion in medical school in the field of ophthalmology. She loves integrating the latest technology in microsurgery to help patients enjoy their best vision after cataract surgery. Dr. Chu has dedicated herself to teaching young doctors at UT Southwestern Medical School for more than 10 years. In her spare time, she is an active member of the Junior League of Dallas and volunteers at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden and Habitat for Humanity. As she walks in throughout the gardens, she whistles the tune, “I can see clearly now the rain has gone.” Carpe diem.
