Wow! Donuts & Drips
If you’re the indecisive type, walking into Wow! can be a daunting experience. A half-dozen glass display cases house more than 75 varieties of doughnuts featured daily at this brightly colored shop. While some are undoubtedly over the top—layered with candy, cookies, or cereal—the real standouts take a more subtle approach. Try the caramel apple doughnut topped with spiced apple pie filling and whipped cream, or the tropical coconut pineapple with coconut cream filling and shaved dried coconut. They’re also awfully proud of their coffee, which comes out of a state-of-the-art Alpha Dominche Steampunk brewing system.
Urban Donut
Urban Donut set out to bring two unique concepts to the Uptown crowd. First, they expanded beyond traditional early-morning hours to provide a late-night option. Second, they created a personalized Design Your Own Donut Bar, a fully customizable experience in which customers fulfill their wildest doughnut fantasies by choosing from a large assortment of doughnuts, toppings, fillings, and frostings. You can also select from their many preassembled specialties, such as the excellent #PBJ, The Cowboy with blueberry cream on top of blueberry cake, or the decadent Urban Triple Chocolate Brownie doughnut.
Detour Doughnuts and Coffee
For many, the required trek to the far stretches of Frisco means Detour Doughnuts is appropriately named. But rest assured that after wrapping your lips around the likes of their exemplary Fig and Mascarpone Cream doughnut, every mile traveled will be well worth it. They offer a wide variety of standards, but their rotating seasonal flavors firmly place them in the upper tier of doughnut shops in the area. Try the Lemon Poppy Seed doughnut with lavender cake or the plump Cookies and Cream with freshly whipped filling.
Glazed Donut Works
At their new Legacy Hall location, the people behind Glazed Donut Works decided to forgo the typical doughnut dunking experience and develop a line of so-called DoughNachos. These small, almost bite-size glazed yeast rings are stacked and topped with various accoutrements. They’re designed to be easily shared, which fits well with the communal food hall dining experience. You’ll want to scope out the FlufferNutter version, with crushed peanuts, peanut butter drizzle, and marshmallow cream, or the Peach Cobbler (fork required).
