The Dallas Arboretum Is Tripping Tulips

Through April 9, experience the botanical garden's 'Peace, Love, and Flower Power.'

With his ukulele-accompanied falsetto, Tiny Tim’s 1968 version of “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” was, well, weird. If you really want to get trippy with tulips, the better option is the Dallas Blooms festival at the Dallas Arboretum through April 9. Themed “Peace, Love, and Flower Power,” this year’s installment will have the usual 500,000 or so psychedelic spring blossoms, along with topiary Volkswagen Beetles, flower wreath making, henna tattoos, and (hey, why not?) an ABBA tribute band. The park will be turned into a life-size version of the Candy Land board game with stops like Gum Drop Mountains and Peppermint Stick Forest. For those with the munchies, the first-ever Food & Wine Festival happens March 16. Snack on bites from more than 20 area chefs, including John Tesar of Knife and Katherine Clapner of Dude, Sweet Chocolate. You can tiptoe if you want.
