The original Carrollton Feed Mill was torn down in 1949 to make room for a modern flood-proof, fireproof 110-foot-high grain elevator. Using slip-form construction, the concrete was poured in a continuous stream, the forms slowly moving up as the concrete hardened below. These days, it’s the brave climbers at the North Texas Outdoor Pursuit Center who ascend the still impenetrable walls. A $15 day pass includes everything you need to climb except for the shoes, and those can be rented for $3 more.
