Hawaiian Falls Waterpark

This massive summer playland has it all: geysers, rope ladders, and three 40-foot water slides that dump adventurous types into a 1,000-gallon water tank. There’s a splash pool for little tykes, a 65-foot tower slide for extreme thrill-seekers, and the Hawaiian Halfpipe that takes you 40 feet in the air. Rent a cabana and hang loose for the day. It comes with a locker and an all-you-can-drink wristband. When July comes, that wristband will come in extremely handy. Trust us.

Bahama Beach

Imagine a tropical paradise just an 11-minute drive south of downtown Dallas. Can you picture it? Do you see the 45-foot water slide? The folks floating in tubes? The private cabanas? The 300-foot, four-lane mat racing slide? Get there, order a frosty drink, and stay awhile. The office can wait.

Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex

You don’t have to live on a river to enjoy a lazy summer afternoon drifting down a waterway. You can just head to Carrollton, grab a tube, and float away. The aquatic center features a zero-depth pool for toddlers, a 50-meter pool for a serious workout, a 22-foot, two-flume slide, a spray bar with bubblers, and water cannons. You’ll also find a snack bar, picnic tables, and an abundance of shaded lounge areas.

The Texas Pool on the Creek

Once upon a time, families camped overnight and hoped they’d be lucky enough to snag a membership to the Texas Pool. The 168,000-gallon saltwater pool shaped like our great state was where everyone wanted to take the edge off in the throes of summer. Today, anyone can join for $200 a season. The action starts on Memorial Day, ends on Labor Day, and each day in between is an opportunity to swim from El Paso to Nacogdoches with your friends and neighbors. Take advantage of the snack bar or bring a cooler full of goodies and use one of the public grills. You’ll also find organized water and beach volleyball, diving boards, water shoots, and slides. Check the events calendar for movie nights, a Memorial Day celebration, Fourth of July festivities, and the big end-of-summer blowout on Labor Day.

NRH2O Family Water Park

Rides here are tagged: aggressive (Great White), high thrill (Purplepalooza, Blue Twister), moderate thrill (Endless River), and low speed (Tadpole Swimming Hole). The ultimate attraction is the namesake NRH2Ocean, a 12,000-square-foot, 225,000-gallon wave pool. We prefer to experience it all from the comfort of a hooded luxury lounger.

On a hot afternoon, hundreds of kids gleefully splash down a paved lane lined with interactive fountains. They dash up the rope ladder, run around the faux hills covered with AstroTurf, and slide in the shallow pool of water. It’s delightful.

Frisco Commons Spray Park

Take a refreshing romp through the recycled well water spray features. Activate the experience by tapping the sensor on the yellow top of the stainless steel post and splash away. Adults may want to bring earplugs. Children here like to scream.

Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center

There are two indoor pools. The competitive one features eight lap lanes, a diving board, and a drop slide; the leisure pool has two walking lanes, a current channel, and underwater seating. The outdoor pool has three water slides, a spraypad, and a shallow area for kids.

Dallas Parks and Recreation

The Parks and Recreation website lists 10 area spraygrounds, including Lake Highlands North, Campbell Green, and Ridgewood Park. They are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, seven days a week.
