How to Shop Henderson Avenue

On a corner of Henderson Avenue, just off the highway, sits the Gypsy Wagon, Carley Seale’s bohemian emporium that caters to shoppers in touch with their inner love child, with its collection of clothing adorned in lace and fringe, cowgirl boots, Southwest-inspired jewels, and whimsical gifts. The boutique’s locale has always been part of its personality. “I scouted the city up and down for a location to open the first Gypsy Wagon,” she says. “I wanted it to be in a space that had character and charm.” It’s now one of three locations (with others in Austin and Crested Butte, Colorado) but has been lovingly dubbed “the OG,” for Original Gypsy. “Henderson Avenue boasts a quirky mix of stores and tends to give its visitors a sense of discovery you don’t find in other retail areas,” Seale says. 

Vintage Martini

Clothing from past decades is in perfect condition, including designer gems. “There is an Oscar de la Renta gypsy skirt in the window that I visit on a regular basis,” Seale says.

Second Kiss

Seale shops here for everyday vintage pieces, particularly from the ’60s and ’70s. She promises that you don’t have to dig for good finds.

La Mariposa Imports

Mexican, Guatemalan, and Peruvian imports, folk art, and Seale’s favorite serapes and embroidered dresses.

Trunk Club

The men’s studio allows shoppers to be presented with personalized, head-to-toe wardrobe options. Seale’s husband, Johnny, is a fan.

Kim Hoegger Home

“I am a farm girl at heart, so I love to see primitive antiques mixed with modern design elements,” Seale says. The store showcases antiques along with
gifts like tea and pretty monogrammed hand towels.

Nick Brock Antiques

The showroom displays show-stopping antiques from Old World to midcentury, including exquisite furniture, paintings, lighting, and, recalls Seale, a $20,000 fox jacket “that they gladly let me play in.”

Against a backdrop of shabby-chic wood and vintage chandeliers are Southern-girl staples: cowgirl boots, cozy frocks, and head-turning jewels. Seale describes it as a Hill Country boutique with urban elegance.
