Taking a Bow Downtown
Dear AT&T Performing Arts Center: we’re smitten with you. We can’t help it. You did all the right things at the Act III Grand Opening. You know about our TMZ obsession, so you brought out the stars: Bruce Willis, Greg Kinnear, Billy Zane, Patti LuPone, Kristin Chenoweth, and more all made memories in our grand new Wyly Theatre and Winspear Opera House. You gave us charming architects like Norman Foster and Spencer de Grey, and we developed a huge crush on the gorgeous Joshua Prince-Ramus. And the over-the-top gala? Well, it put us over the top. But you knew putting Chenoweth in a UT jersey (and, later, a frilly pink number) and having her sing “Popular” would make us swoon, and you were right. Why, we were still prattling on about her when we walked outside and saw the looong bars stacked three deep with Champagne. And you got us again with the soaring tents that stretched the length of a football field loaded with delicious food from the Ritz. (Gourmet mac and cheese? Yes, please.) But you put the cherry on our sundae with your ACT III chairwoman, the fabulous Jeanne Marie Clossey, who showed up in a sweeping purple Oscar de la Renta gown. We wanted to cue Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” when she swept by with a handsome actor on her arm. “Was that Sylar from Heroes?” we asked each other. Yes, Clossey’s date was Zachary Quinto (a setup by her well-connected daughter, it seems), which means we are now the newest members of Ms. Clossey’s fan club. We ended the night with one of our favorite ladies, Yvonne Crum, summing up our love affair with you just right: “This is all just so fabulous for our city of Dallas.”
XOXO, SARAH
