D Art Slam at f.i.g. was a three-day, juried event showcasing the world of local artists. The VIP preview event welcomed 275 guests who had the privilege of being first to see the exhibition while enjoying beer from Stella Artois, coffee from Starbucks, and nibbles from Culinary Art Catering. The highly anticipated New 2009 Dallas Nine Awards, recognizing talent within the exhibiting artists, were unveiled at the VIP celebration. This year’s honorees were chosen by a group of arts community advocates, including local arts media expert Gail Sachson, fine arts professors Richard Davis and Eddy Rawlinson, renowned artist Dan Rizzie, and art dealer Chris Byrne.
During the course of the weekend, more than 2,000 people visited to both view and purchase the work of the 150 exhibiting artists in f.i.g.’s stylish gallery space. Juried pieces spanned sculpture, paint, and photography and underscored the wealth of artistic talent in Dallas. D Magazine founder and CEO Wick Allison and Brooks Partners President and CEO John Sughrue plan to make this an annual event. Says Allison: “One of the hallmarks of a great city is a thriving local arts community, and we believe that the D Art Slam at f.i.g. is another clear sign that Dallas is rapidly transforming into a true cultural destination.”
