Fall may be upon us, but the runways at New York Fashion Week were in full bloom as designers—85, to be exact—such as Carolina Herrera, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa, Oscar de la Renta, and Ralph Lauren debuted their spring 2009 collections. We were there to take it all in. DKNY celebrated 20 years, paying homage to the city that never sleeps with
urban-chic looks that transform from day to night.

Calvin Klein celebrated a flourishing 40 with architectural forms and a peek into the future. Thanks to local retailer LFT, Francisco Costa’s origami-like designs (pictured here) in shades of white, nude, silver, and blue will be available locally come spring (resort looks arrive this month). Emerging trends: vibrant colors (fuchsia, citron, lavender, lemon, and bright blues), soft neutrals (slate gray, blush, beige, and white), twisted fabrics, belted waists, sharp shoulders, soft volume, ruffles, leather, and shine.
