Reached in New Orleans on a recent afternoon, Fred Baron confirms our hunch. “I’m with the senator right now,” he says. That senator is John Edwards, Democratic presidential candidate. Our suspicion was that Baron had joined the Edwards campaign. Indeed he has. Baron is the national finance chair for Edwards ’08, a position he held during Edwards’ 2004 presidential run. Since 2002, when Baron sold his shareholder interest in the law firm Baron & Budd, he has involved himself more in politics, specifically for Edwards, a longtime friend. Since then he has also moved. Baron will live primarily in Chapel Hill (Edwards ’08 HQ) until at least the primaries. “The Iowa Caucuses are 50 weeks and five days away,” Baron says. “So we’re going to have a very, very busy year.”
