At Starfish in Oak Cliff, the only relics are old, comforting recipes.

Along West Davis Street, in the burgeoning Bishop Arts District, funky gift shops and restaurants are sprouting up between tire shops and quinceañera dress stores. The most recent of these is Starfish, a casual spot serving seafood with a Cajun accent in a sleek, Jetson-esque interior. (Not a bad redo for a former Dairy Queen.) Owners Henry Branstetter and Tom McCoy know a lot about salvaging older buildings. They also own Oak Cliff Mercantile, a store that sells refurbished architectural pieces rescued from old homes. At Starfish, the only relics are old recipes: cozy comfort foods like fried pickles, bacon-wrapped shrimp, and Cajun meatloaf po’ boy served on firm, fresh bread. Did we mention the warm cherry cobbler topped with ice cream? At Starfish, everything old is new again. 1417 W. Davis St. 214-942-8100. $. BYOB

Update: Starfish has closed.
