The Wine Therapist is not your typical retail bottle shop. Sure, you can buy wine from around the world without having a panic attack—the average bottle is around $20—but front man Phillip Nikpour has a grander vision for his store. He wants to promote wine as part of a healthy, as well as pleasurable, lifestyle, by mixing imbibing with art, music, massage, and Caudalíe Vinothérapie skin-care products. As a result, the Wine Therapist has become a laid-back neighborhood hang, where Lakewood denizens sink into leather sofas and enjoy a Tempranillo and some Spanish guitar while gazing upon the Goya- and Dali-inspired canvases of David Piper. Engage Nikpour in a little conversation, and soon you’ll be spilling your secrets as he pours you another glass. 1810 Skillman St. 214-821-9463.—JENNIFER CHININIS
