Dallas is famous for three things: big hair, J.R., and the best shopping on the planet. We bring you our second-annual guide to the best shopping in the city. Whether you’re a clotheshorse, shoe diva, or candle junky, we found a

Whether your clothes are stylishly chic or affordably fun, we have the answer to the nagging question “What should I wear?”

STRICTLY UPSCALE

Betty Reiter. Owner and designer Betty Reiter boasts a loyal clientele who come to her for great suits by Krizia, unique separates by Yeohlee, and fur and alligator handbags by Nancy Gonzalez. Reiter also collaborates with a team in Paris to produce private- label clothes, which can be special-ordered or custom-designed. Plaza at Preston Center, 4030 Villa Nova Dr. 214-373-9990.

Carla Martinengo. For four years Carla Martinengo has supplied fashion-forward Dallasites with hard-to-find European designers, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier, ultra-feminine Blumarine, and beautifully cut Balenciaga. The store’s setting can be a little intimidating, but when Martinengo is around, she’s happy to offer her opinion on pieces from her elite collection. 8300 Preston Rd. 214-522-9284.

Forty Five Ten. McKinney Avenue is the place to shop, thanks in part to owners Brian Bolke and Bill Mackin. Forty Five Ten carries cutting-edge lines, such as Stella McCartney, Alberta Ferretti, Souchi, Comme des Garçons, Project Alabama, and, our favorite, Alexander McQueen. Jewelry is stellar, too, with trinkets by Sue Gragg and Anthony Nak. 4510 McKinney Ave. 214-559-4510.

Lilly Dodson. Dallas’ old-school society dames peruse the latest from old-school designers, while their offspring check out hip new labels. For a one-of-a-kind evening gown, make an appointment to see the in-house courtier, who regularly dresses Dallas’ most fashionable women. 31 Highland Park Village. 214-528-0528.

Neiman Marcus Downtown. This flagship store is a one-stop shop for everything upscale, whether you need a new pair of Manolo Blahniks or a Versace table setting for 12. Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent both have their own in-store sections. Or you can browse the latest from John Galliano, Missoni, Prada, and Roberto Cavalli. 1618 Main St. 214-741-6911. www.neimanmarcus.com.

Stanley Korshak. This privately owned, high-end boutique reminds us of Barneys New York. Like Neiman Marcus, Stanley Korshak carries Canali, Armani, Moschino, and other European designers. The accessories departments have recently been expanded, so you’ll have even more reason to stop by and drop some serious coin. 500 Crescent Court, Ste. 100. 214-871-3600. www.stanleykorshak.com.

Tootsies. No matter the event, Tootsies will have you covered head to toe. The lower level of the store is dedicated to casual lines, such as Trina Turk, Lela Rose, Vivienne Tam, Ralph Lauren, and Diane Von Furstenberg. Upstairs, search for after-five attire by Badgley Mischka and Nicole Miller. 8300 Preston Rd. 214-696-9993. www.tootsies.com.

FUN AND FUNKY

Avant. You can’t get into this joint without ringing the doorbell, but once inside, you’re in one of the coolest shops in town. The front of the store carries flirty dresses from Betsey Johnson, Sue Wong, and Bianca Nero. There are also funky tops by Save the Queen and separates by William B. 2716 Greenville Ave. 214-824-0260.

Cotton Island. Both locations have a decidedly shabby-chic interior, and the staff is always young, fun, and super nice in that college co-ed kind of way. Peruse the racks for Juicy Couture and every style of Seven jeans. And if you can’t make your way to Paul Frank at West Village, Cotton Island has tons of tees and jammies by the monkey man. 1900 Preston Rd., Ste. 258, Plano. 972-769-1085; 6601B Hillcrest Ave. 214-373-1085. www.cottonisland.com.

Elements. A lot has changed since last year. Not only has owner Connie Sigel added tons of square footage, but she’s also added a small selection of housewares and cutie baby bags to go along with fun lines, such as Just Cavalli, Von Dutch jeans, Trina Turk, and Rebecca Taylor. Elements has some great accessories, too, and a swelling lingerie area. 4400 Lovers Ln. 214-987-0837. www.elementsclothing.com.

Emeralds to Coconuts. The smell of sandlewood overpowers you when you open the door. Not surprisingly, you can buy a lifetime supply of the ever-popular incense here, as well as oil to rub on your third eye. After cleansing your aura, you’ll be set to browse the selection of linen skirts, shirts, and overalls. The store also carries Chinese slippers and colorful shawls for chilly nights. 2730 N. Henderson Ave. 214-823-3620.

Goodnight Moon/Lilly Pulitzer. For Palm Beach transplants who never get enough pink-and-green ribbon belts, Goodnight Moon feels like home. Lilly Pulitzer is known for fun, wildly loud prints, but you’ll also find more subtle solutions to your dressing dilemmas, such as button-downs and pullovers. 207 Preston Royal Village. 214-691-9393. www.gnmdallas.com.

Glass Slipper. This girly shop is a welcome addition to the Dallas retail scene, especially for Poleci and Trina Turk capris. The store also carries a small selection of shoes, handbags, jewelry, and beauty products. West Village, 3699 McKinney Ave., Ste. 301. 214-526-2115.

Graye Concept. UNT graduate Jennifer Madden opened this well-rounded shop last September, and Parkies can’t get enough of her comfy, yet stylish, shoes. Madden designs the shoes herself, then stocks the rest of the store with things from Ted Baker, feminine trousers by Tracy Reese, and items from the wildly popular Cambio. 8314 Preston Center Plaza. 214-750-7463. www.graye.com.

H.D.’s Women’s. Much like Avant, H.D.’s is one of those places on Lower Greenville that makes the area what it is. For 21 years (yes, it’s been that long) it’s provided the M Street crowd with af-
fordable, hip finds. The biggest draw these days is the huge selection of Diesel jeans. 3014 Greenville Ave. 214-821-8900. www.hdsclothing.com.

Jean Connection. If you need jeans, you’ll find them here. Pear-shaped? No matter. Boy figure? Not a problem. Just stop by, tell a sales associate what you’re looking for, and step into one of the dressing rooms. An attendant will discreetly take your size and pull from the vast selection of denim. You’ll look 10 pounds slimmer in no time. 5926 W. Northwest Hwy. 214-691-7894. www.jeanconnection.com.

Krimson & Klover. Sisters Kristin and Kathryn Anderson run this darling new boutique and give us our fix of unique items we can’t find anywhere else. Labels exclusive to the store include sexy Miguelina tops, Jeffrey Campbell shoes, and World According to Jess handbags. Other great finds: Blue Cult jeans, Poleci, Cosabella thongs, and the company of the friendly store dog Dudley. 3111 Cole Ave. 214-871-2334. www.krimsonandklover.com.

Mesho. The racks at Mandy Loughray’s store are stocked with the best collection of Poleci in Dallas. Loughray also carries lots of Frankie B, ABS by Allen Schwartz, and tops from Panacea. Thick, leather watchbands are a fall must-have, and there are plenty here. Mockingbird Station, 5331 E. Mockingbird Ln., Ste. 125. 214-827-4600.

Octane. Check out the stacks of Sharagano sweaters and Fred Perry tracksuits in green and blue velour; the comfy, cotton tanks from James Perse; Citizens of Humanity jeans; and one of Madonna’s favorites, trousers by LA designer Kingslee Greene. West Village, 3699 McKinney Ave., Ste. 302. 214-219-3118.

Off the Shoulder. This lovely little boutique caters to Generation X grown-ups who have done away with grunge gear and now opt for more sophisticated threads. Lots of wool blend trousers by Louis Verdad, blouses by Poleci, and Earl Jean Western-inspired button-downs are just a few of the things you’ll see here. 3001 Knox St. 214-520-1100.

Primrose. Expect lots of flowing, velvet skirts and stretch-lace shirts with beading—on the racks and on the staff—at this small store in Inwood Village. The romantic color palette is composed of deep greens and blues and lots of aubergine. 5600 W. Lovers Ln., Ste. 139. 214-352-1333. www.primroseboutique.com

Spicy II. Long-sleeve Theory cotton shirts hang alongside silk Tocca dresses and Carolina Herrera-inspired, velvet ribbon skirts by Ruth. Plenty, Tracey Resse’s secondary line, is another standout, as are Paper Denim & Cloth and Blue Cult jeans. Good news for SMU students: save 10 percent discount with your student ID. 6607 Hillcrest, Ste. 101. 214-361-6555.

Shishi. Zoe, a 3-pound Yorkie, greets you when you come for the latest must-have fashions: dresses by Shoshanna, nighties by Mon Petit Oiseau, denim by Jill Stuart, and shirts by Brazilian designer Iodice. Shishi also has a big selection of jewelry and accessories, including shoe-charm necklaces by local designer Three Wishes. 6705 Snider Plaza. 214-368-8915.

Studio Sebastian’s. This summer, Sebastian’s expanded and now houses its own shoe salon (see “Just Shoe Me” on p. 102). In the front of the store, check out the Jill Stuart coats and super-short skirts, beautiful fem pieces by Jane Mayle, handmade chenille scarves by Dallas talent La Bufanda by Brooke, and suits by Tree. 6730 Snider Plaza. 214-360-9001.

Sussie’s. The answer to every Frisco fashionista’s dilemma is at Sussie’s. This gem of a store (in a strip mall next to Tom Thumb, no less) supplies the ladies up north with embroidered jeans by ABS, Fabricio Gianni slacks, button-down shirts from Poleci, and lovely items from Rebecca Taylor and Tarameter. 4760 Preston Rd., Ste. 204, Frisco. 972-335-2792.

CHEAP AND CHIC

Barneys New York Outlet. Barneys is back in Big D—and better than ever—as an outlet. Pick up a pinstriped, private-label suit for less than $200 or a Balenciaga fringe bag for a mere $300 (that’s more than half off the regular price). We also spied boot-cut Earl jeans for 50 bucks. Allen Premium Outlets, 820 W. Stacy Rd., Allen. 972-678-2100. www.premiumoutlets.com/allen.

Bella Bella. Go to Bella Bella when you need a quick shopping fix that won’t bite you in the wallet. This Uptown boutique carries a wonderful selection of lacy, boy-cut undies and matching camisoles, and inexpensive handbags and shoes. West Village, 3699 McKinney Ave., Ste. 304. 214-528-6677.

Ciel. Stop by Ciel on your way home from a night out on the town and get a new outfit for your next night out. The store stays open late and has great designer look-alikes for cheap, cheap, cheap. Check out the super-low, super-tight jeans. 1927 Greenville Ave. 214-370-3001.

Last Call from Neiman Marcus. Expect nothing but the best from NM. Recently we spotted Prada navy-and-gold brocade shells and a Donna Karan gold sequin tube top that would pair perfectly with jeans for a night on the town. The men’s department isn’t shabby, either. Grapevine Mills Outlet, 3000 Grapevine Mills Pkwy., Ste. 233. Grapevine. 214-513-1527. www.grapevinemills.com.

Movida. Stock up on chic separates from Honey Punch, stretch-knit shirts by Sweet Pea, or vintage Wrangler minis by Che-Chaw. More often than not, you’ll find a sale rack filled with button-down shirts and tees by To The Max. If you’ve just landed your first job or you’re looking for chic, reasonably priced pieces to update your wardrobe, put Movida at the top of your shopping list. Mockingbird Station, 5321 E. Mockingbird Ln., Ste. 130. 214-821-8669.

Off 5th Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet. One lucky summer day, we arrived to discover an entire shipment of Prada bags, all 50 percent off the original price. We also coveted the Michael Kors separates, cable-knit sleeveless sweaters, and safari-esque jackets. Accessories junkies score big with Technomarine watches, and chunky Stephen Dweck. Grapevine Mills Outlet, 3000 Grapevine Mills Pkwy., Ste. 211. Grapevine. 972-724-3500. www.grapevinemills.com.

Pitaya. Much like Movida, but it’s in the other urban retail/residential development. Pitaya is perfect for trendy clothes at great prices, including ’80s-inspired net shirts, willowy chiffon tops, and more denim than you can shake a leg at. We also recommend you try the private-label blue jeans—they look just like designer duds. West Village, 3699 McKinney Ave., Ste. 409. 214-252-9700. www.pitayaonline.com.

Urban Outfitters. We love the recycled shirts, jeans, and skirts for which Urban Outfitters is known. Old scarves are fashioned into flirty minis, camp shirts are re-cut and sewn into body-hugging tank tops, and Highlights shoes you wouldn’t have been caught dead in at your seventh-grade dance are revamped into something too cool for school. Mockingbird Station, 5331 E. Mockingbird Ln., Ste. 190. 214-821-4371. www.urbanoutfitters.com.

JUST FOR KIDS

Animal Crackers. This is where cool moms shop (for themselves and their offspring). Animal Crackers carries a great selection from Betsey Johnson and Nicole Miller for preteens as well as shoes from Kenneth Cole’s secondary line, Reaction, in small-person sizes. For babies, there are boot-cut, cotton stretch pants. 1900 Preston Rd., Ste. 260, Plano. 972-867-4802. www.animalcrackers.com.

Bebe Grand. Everything inside this pink, blue, green, and yellow store is super-soft cotton and yummy. Discover Petit Bateau onesies and shirts, darling hand-smocked dresses from Catimini, Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags, and Milk and Cookies bibs made from vintage-like fabrics. 2013 Abrams Pkwy. 214-887-9224.

Haute Baby. The Versace of baby stores. If you prefer cocktail-length, pink faux furs for your babe, then you have to shop here. Everything is trimmed with chenille, lined with faux fur, or comes with matching hat or shoes. Haute Baby also has a beautiful selection of christening gowns and accessories. Inwood Village, 5350 W. Lovers Ln., Ste. 128. 214-357-3068. www.hautebaby.com.

Jacadi. Shop Jacadi for prim-and-proper European classics for newborns through preteens. Our favorites include finds for the 3-and-younger set: itsy-bitsy cardigans with bunnies on the sleeves, blue wool booties with bubblegum-pink fuzz balls, and a green velvet shift perfect with a long-sleeve, white turtleneck. 53 Highland Park Village, 214-443-9006; 6121 W. Park Blvd. Ste. 101D, Plano. 469-366-0011. www.jacadiusa.com.

Oilily. The beauty of Oilily is that it fosters the concept of mixing and matching, so kids who insist on dressing themselves come out looking perfectly disheveled. Pair pink, yellow, or tangerine tights with a striped cord jumper for that Euro hippie feel. NorthPark Center, 216 NorthPark Center. 214-692-5173. www.oililyusa.com.

Shelbi’s Stuff. If you envision a themed nursery or bedroom for your tiny tot, make this your first stop. Choose from planes, trains, kitties, or flowers in every color scheme imaginable. And if you haven’t decided on furniture, you can do that, too. We love the chic diaper bags you’ll want to carry long after Junior doesn’t need his Pampers changed. 8318 Preston Center Plaza. 214-346-0404.

VINTAGE

Ahab Bowen. At this heavily edited version of Goodwill located in a quaint, little house in Uptown, the prices can be a bit high. But they’re worth it if you don’t have the time to rummage through endless racks of uncool rejects. Ahab Bowen has a good selection of beaded cardigans from the ’50s, and we still treasure a silver-beaded vintage bag we scored several years ago. 2614 Boll St. 214-720-1874.

Counter Culture. This is the place for vintage Levi’s, and the staff can help you find a pair that fits. For the true ’80s connoisseur, go for Members Only windbreakers or channel your inner Debra Winger circa 1980 and take home something from the extensive selection of jewel-tone disco dresses. New shipments arrive every week. 2707 Main St. 214-698-0117.

Casa Loco. This little shop in Deep Ellum specializes in clothing from the ’60s and ’70s. By far the most extensive collection is of vintage Guayabera shirts. But when we stopped by, it wasn’t the shirts that caught our eye. After rummaging through racks of dresses, we hit the vintage shopper’s jackpot: a silk jersey Pucci for $20. 2639A Elm St. 214-748-5626.
www.casalocotexas.com.

Gratitude. Gratitude is bursting at the seams with fabulous finds, including pillbox hats, wasp-waisted prom dresses from the ’50s, and Bakelite and Lucite purses. If you can’t commit to an item, rent anything for 25 percent of the sales price. Gratitude regularly receives vintage Chanel, Pucci, Diane von Furstenberg, and Zandra Rhodes. 3714 Fairmount St. 214-522-2921. www.gratitude-dallas.com.

Pandemonium. There is no better place in Dallas to buy a rayon muumuu and white plastic ball earrings. Mrs. Roper, watch out! If you need a quick fix for a party, owner Leslie Daum rents out a few things, such as brocade cocktail jackets with rhinestone buttons and white patent boots. 2726 N. Henderson Ave. 214-370-5677. www.pandemoniumlimited.com.

Ragwear. In the past few years, the popularity of the pimp-and-ho combo has made Ragwear the place to purchase Halloween costumes. Along with the requisite Afro wigs and white patent boots, the store has an outstanding collection of caftans, shift dresses, bowling shirts, and more plaid polyester pants than you can throw a match at. 2000 Greenville Ave. 214-827-4163; 13410 Preston Rd. 972-866-6555.

RESALE AND CONSIGNMENT

Buffalo Exchange. Retro and kitsch are the names of the game here. The look is very Deep Ellum-ish—funky, printed baby tees, miniskirts, and low-slung cargo pants and jeans. The store does carry new items, conveniently identified by bright purple tags. Drop off your old faves for cash on the spot or trade ’em in for someone else’s discards. 3424 Greenville Ave. 214-826-7544. www.buffaloexchange.com.

Clothes Circuit. A favorite of the Park Cities crowd, this store declares, “Dress first class, fly coach.” The 20-year-old resale shop is packed wall-to-wall with clothing organized by category and color, and red tags make designer items easy to spot. But beware of fauxs and fakes, because Clothes Circuit carries look-alikes (often good ones) as well as the real thing. Expect David Yurman, Prada, Manolo Blahnik, Chanel, and Lilly Pulitzer. 6105 Sherry Ln. 214-696-8634. www.clothescircuit.com.

Clotheshorse Anonymous. This North Dallas store is your best bet for couture and designer finds, which usually have their own racks and are priced to move. Though the clothing selection is more for the mature woman (think St. John), the shoes, handbags, and jewelry are ageless. 1413 Preston Forest Square. 972-233-7005. www.clotheshorseanonymous.com.

Reventé Upscale Resale. The fare here includes brand names like Kate Spade, Banana Republic, Kenneth Cole, Ann Taylor, and Guess—things we’d swear are formerly worn by SMU sorority girls. While the store carries lots of knockoffs, there are some high-fashion labels among the lot. Designer goods are not clearly differentiated from the rest, so you’ll have to dig. 5400 E. Mockingbird Ln., Ste. 113. 214-823-2800. www.reventeresale.com.

INTIMATES

Ginny’s Underworld. This ultra-feminine Plano boutique has provided generations of women with underthings for 33 years. Silken robes, lace tap pants, or feather boas—Ginny’s has them. A bonus for the men in our lives: the business cards double as cheat sheets for birthdays, anniversaries, and sizes. Preston Park Village, 1900 Preston Rd., Ste. 199, Plano. 972-867-7252.

Lingerie Collection. After a long, hard day, all you want is your comfy robe and slippers. Barbara Wilpon has provided these nighttime staples to Dallas women for nearly a decade. Her boutique is the place to go for the medium-priced basics, such as white bras and underwear, slips, and cotton nighties. The shop also offers custom fitting for brides-to-be or any woman who wants a bra that finally fits. 520 Preston Royal Village. 214-691-3710.

Maddox Shop. This Casa Linda shop isn’t as glamorous as La Petite Coquette, but you will find something to suit your size and taste. From bustier to bathrobe, the Maddox Shop caters to your every need, including measuring your bust and, if needed, adding a dart, nip, or tuck to get the perfect fit. Don’t miss the unbelievable sales. 130 Casa Linda Plaza. 214-328-3009. www.maddoxshop.com.

Sheers. Walk into this Oak Lawn boutique as Jell-O and emerge as J.Lo with the help of consultant Arichelle Cooper and the store’s vast array of specialty body-shaping garments. The back wall is covered with a fix for what ails you. For those who don’t yet need a lift-up or a suck-in, the floor is filled with flirty, feminine fun that ranges from respectable to downright racy. In fact, our fave involved a bit of fur. 4266 Oak Lawn Ave. 214-528-7292.

MATERNITY WEAR

Japanese Weekend Maternity. We love this store for its Anthropologie-esque tops and dresses; cool, striped, boot-cut trousers; and extensive collection of active wear. Japanese Weekend Maternity also carries an entire line of versatile, luxe jersey separates in basic black—including a darling “holly go lightly” dress—for the office and beyond. Shops at Willow Bend, 6121 W. Park Blvd., Plano. 469-366-4474. www.japaneseweekend.com.

Mimi Maternity. This is the place for future moms on a budget who still want to look stylish and, well, un-pregnant. Darling wrap dresses, cropped jeans, denim minis, and sexy strapless numbers for nights out on the town, and an entire collection of yoga wear are just a few of the finds at this reasonably priced shop. Stonebriar Centre, 2600 Preston Rd., Frisco. 469-633-1465. Multiple locations. www.mimimaternity.com.

Motherhood Maternity. Hip underbelly jeans, stretch capris, matte jersey wrap dresses, and vast collection of printed and solid georgette tops are some of the goods you’ll find at this store. We also love the selection of fashion tees (halter, sleeveless, three-quarter-length, and more) for less than $20 each. Dallas Galleria, 13350 Dallas Pkwy. 972-490-6490. Multiple locations. www.motherhood.com.

A Pea in the Pod. Mothers-to-be who absolutely cannot live without their designer duds shop at A Pea in the Pod. Alongside fabulous designer items from Diane Von Furstenberg, Anne Klein, and Lilly Pulitzer, as well as denim from such lines as Earl, Allen B., and Blue Cult, future mommies can pick up intimates, career suits, casual tees and pants, baby bags, and Kate Spade accessories. Shops at Willow Bend, 6121 W. Park Blvd., Plano. 469-366-1018. Multiple locations. www.apeainthepod.com.

Pickles & Ice Cream. This quaint little shop is full of fun fashion lines and great gifts for mom and babe. In fact, you’ll find the “best maternity pant” by Noppies, as well as Duet Design’s stylish dresses and Meet Me In Miami trendy tops. Angie Harmon has popped in a few times, purchasing the oh-so-soft Little Giraffe blankie. Keep an eye out for Citizens of Humanity and Earl jeans maternity lines, due in November. Plaza at Preston Center. 8300 Preston Rd., Ste. 700. 214-361-1898. www.picklesmaternity.com.

GENTLEMEN’S CLUBS
Every girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp-dressed man. So listen up, boys.

Cowboy Cool. Forget the Marlboro Man. This Uptown store screams “rock star.” In fact, Cowboy Cool carries shirts by Roy Rogers Signature, which rocker/film star Billy Bob Thornton has endorsed. When the store can keep them in stock, you can also find shirts from Cad Zoots. (Yes, you can custom order.) West Village, 3699 McKinney Ave., Ste. 407. 214-521-4500.

Culwell & Son. Although this family-run operation may be reminiscent of bygone eras, the store’s apparel is superbly up-to-date. Men and boys will find everything they need in attire and accessories for any occasion. Oxxford and Hickey Freeman suits and sports coats, Ike Behar and Barry Bricken shirts, Gravati shoes, and Tommy Bahama casual wear are just a few of the options. Custom suits are big business here, as are tuxes (for sale and rental). 6319 Hillcrest Ave. 214-522-7000. www.culwell.com.

Daniel Taylor Clothier. Stock up on suits and business casual wear perfect for lawyers, bankers, and other worker bees. Close the deal with Biella and Samuelson custom or stock suits and Ike Behar dress shirts. Gillio and St. Croix are for office Fridays or the golf course. Acorn even has some long-sleeve selections cool enough to wear for evenings out in Uptown. West Village, 3699 McKinney Ave., Ste. 313. 214-521-0433.

Forty Five Ten. Call it intellectual high fashion. Forty Five Ten carries the most talked-about names in fashion, for discriminating men who seek the unusual without being overly trendy. Choose from Yohji Yamamoto, Martin Margiela, Paul Smith, Comme des Garçons, Andrew Dibben, or Juicy Couture track suits for men. 4510 McKinney Ave. 214-559-4510.

H.D.’s Clothing Company. Owners Harry and Vicki DeMarco make five trips a year to Europe’s major fashion centers and bring back the urban looks that are shaping fashion abroad. With the small quantities they buy, you aren’t likely to run into your cool clothes coming and going. 3018 Greenville Ave. 214-821-5255. www.hdsclothing.com.

Jean Connection. This is the Dallas destination for denim worshippers. All the contemporary brands in jeans and denim jackets are available here—AG, G-Star, Mavi, Seven, Diesel, Energie, Paper Denim & Cloth, and others. Better still is the customer service. Check out the G-Star Western-style, short-sleeve shirts and other casual wear for the young and hip. 5926 W. Northwest Hwy. 214-691-7894. www.jeanconnection.com.

Ken’s Man’s Shop. Owner Ken Helfman knows his stuff. Equilibrio Italian shirts, sans top button, are must-haves for under suits and with jeans. Helfman also put together a three-button tuxedo with several neckwear options that is as glamorous as anything the Kennedys wore in their heyday. (Brad Pitt has one, too.) Zanella trousers in fantastic fabrics, handsome Donald Pliner shoes, and exquisite Borsalino hats are more of our favorites. 309 Preston Royal Village. 214-369-5367. www.kensmansshop.com.

M.L. Leddy’s. Lyle Lovett makes a point of stopping in. So do Larry Gatlin, Joe Montana, and local boy Bill Paxton. You won’t find Wranglers or Ropers here—only the highest quality Western wear, including made-to-measure suits of Ermenegildo Zenga fabric. Leddy’s handmade boots and belts and the custom-tailored clothes make us proud to be Texans. 2455 N. Main St., Fort Worth.
817-624-3149.

Legacy Trading Company. Everything in this furniture-and-more store has a quirky, stylish air, including the casual men’s clothing. Choose from lots of sexy, urban cowboy shirts or vintage work shirts with rolled-up sleeves and personalized patches. Clever t-shirts evoke your inner Ashton Kutcher. West Village, 3699 McKinney Ave., Ste. 104. 214-953-2222.

Luke’s Locker. If you want to look stylish while you sweat, get your workout gear here. The knowledgeable staff in this establishment, led by the Lucas brothers, is one of the store’s biggest assets. Not an athlete? Don’t worry.
