Artfest. May 28-30. Last year, Mayor Ron Kirk labeled this I festival as “the Official Memorial Day Weekend Celebration in Dallas.” Kind of a mouthful, but it’s an endorsement to be reckoned with. Cinco de Mayo Celebration. May 1-2. Mexico defeated the Spanish more than 200 years ago, but the victory party is still going strong. Word is, this one is the best in Dallas. Tejano music stars Joe Lopez and Elida y Evante will be on hand to celebrate Mexico’s independence at this year’s festival. Fair Park. 214-800-5220.

3 Sleeping Beauty. May 13-16. Fort Worth Dallas Ballet presents the Houston Ballet’s interpretation of Charles Perrauit’s tale of fairies, princesses, and princes-not to mention that ominous spinning wheel. Bass Performance Hall, 4th and Calhoun streets. Fort Worth. 800-654-9545



4 Hootie and the Blowfish. May 7. It’s hard to pigeonhole the music of this formerfrat-house band from South Carolina-is it pop. -rock, or soul? Whatever you label it, it’s ear- candy; The band’s as popular as ever. Coca Cola Starplex. 214-421-1111.

Taste Addison. May 15-16. This event is a tall order, since Addison has the highest concentration of restaurants of any city west of the Mississippi. A Chorus Line. May 4-9. Think life is cutthroat in the business world? Well, as Michael Bennett’s Tony Award-winning musical shows, it’s not all glamour and glitz in show business, either. Making Strides Against Cancer 5K Walk. May 22. A little sun, a little exercise, and a worthy cause: What better way to spend a Saturday morning?
