THE DALLAS HORNING NEWS DANCE FESTIVAL

Join us under the stars of the Arts District! Artist Square will host the 14th annual Dallas Morning News Dance Festival, September 3-6, from 8-10 p.m.

The FREE production will feature a guest appearance by Paul Taylor: Taylor 2, and nightly performances by Dancers Unlimited, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts Dance Ensemble, and SMU’s Meadows Dance Ensemble. Six guest companies will round out the program. Monday. September 7, is reserved as a rain date.

The festival is presented by The Dallas Morning News and produced by the Arts District Friends, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the Arts District alive. For more information, call (214) 953-1977.

DOWNTOWN ROUNDUP

Put on your best western duds and head Downtown on September 25 as the 6th annual Downtown Roundup kicks off this year’s State Fair of Texas.

Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with boot-scootin’ music at Pegasus Plaza (Main at Akard), followed by free samples of the tastiest chili in Downtown, courtesy of the “Totally Texas” Corporate Chili Cook-off.

At noon, the State Fair Opening Day Parade begins its march down Main Street from Houston Street.

At 5 p.m., head out to Fair Park for opening ceremonies and an evening of fun at the best State Fair in the country.

DALLAS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra transports you to the City of Lights with its opening night gala, “A Night in Paris.” “The beginning of a new symphony season is always a joyous time,” states Music Director Andrew Litton. “This year’s gala will be especially lively with the boisterous and tuneful music of Offenbach. His famous “can-can” is a fitting way to get us all in step with the new season.” Mr. Litton will be joined by international superstars, violinists Anne Akiko Meyers and pianist Philippe Entremont, performing contrasting selections by Saint-Saens.
