THUMBS UP PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF

By D Magazine |

To Dallas mayor pro tem, Mary Poss.

In 1995, the proposed de-mucking of White Rock Lake seemed as mired as the lake itself. And when the work did get underway, projected costs were 40 percent over budget. Yet early this fall, the city announced the project would soon be finished a full year ahead of schedule and-gasp- $400,000 under budget.

Thanks to the perserverance of Poss, who kept the project on the city government’s front burner-plus good weather and equipment modifications on the dredge-the average depth at the middle of the lake is now 10 feet, which means smooth navigating for the lake’s many sailboaters.

Now, on to Bachman.
