DesignOuation 1998 Awards

The annual Designation awards, presented May 9,1998, by the Dallas Association of the American Society of Interior Designers, recognized the finest in achievements in interior design, architecture and special contributions to the community.



The annual DesignOvation event sponsored by the ASID Dallas Association is the “Academy Awards” for design in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. This gala event honors the winners of a juried design competition encompassing a wide range of categories. Sponsorship, which makes this event possible, is provided by local and national interior design companies and vendors.



ASID is the oldest and largest professional organization for interior designers. The designers represented have met the most rigorous standards achievable within the design community. ASID designers employ their education and professional experience to fulfill their client’s design goals. Achievement Awards

Toany Foy Award: Marguerite Thomas Green, ASID (Posthumously) For a distinguished career in interior design. Given to a professional member of either the Dallas or Fori Worth Associations who has exhibited honor and integrity in the design profession, has elevated the level of design over a sustained career and who has been a continuing influence and inspiration to the design community.



ASID Service Award: Jeanine Bazer-Schwarti, FASID For sustained service to the society and profession. Given to a professional member of either the Dallas or Fort Worth Associations for outstanding contributions to the design profession through service to ASID.



Industry Partner Service Award: Salamandre, Inc. For sustained and meritorious service to the society and design industry. Given to an Industry Partner of the Texas Chapter who exhibits commitment to excellence in business practices and in-trade relations with the design profession.



Education Award: Ira Shoemaker, University of North Texas For meritorious and or outstanding contribution to education in the field of design. Given to on individual, association or institution.



Trisha WiLson, ASID

Internationally acclaimed hotel designer Trisha Wilson.ASID serves as DesignOvation’s 1998 Honorary Chair. She has built her global empire around the business of designing hotels, restaurants, clubs and casinos. From five-star resorts catering to every whim of the well-traveled elite to the charming whimsy of childhood dreams at Disney World in Florida and France, Wilson’s signature can be seen of every stop.



Born in Augusta, Georgia and reared in Dallas, Texas, Trisha Wilson is a dynamic business woman employing more than 100 design professionals in her offices in Dallas, Singapore, New York, Los Angeles and Johannesburg, South Africa. Trisha founded Wilson X Associates twenty years ago; today her firm ranks first in the hospitality design industry.



Accolades for Trisha are numerous, including her 1993 induction into the Interior Design Hall of Fame, inclusion in the Women of Design traveling exhibition, 1993 American Designers’ National Designer of Distinction Award, 1990 Woman of the Year by the Network of Executive Women in Hospitality just to name a few.

Philanthropist or Entrepreneurial Award: Robert and Nancy Dedman For meritorious service or contribution to excellence of design in Dallas or Fort worth. Given to an individual, foundation or corporation.



Historic Preservation Award: The Meadows Foundation/ Wilson Block For preservation and restoration of historical properties in the Dallas and Fort Worth metropolitan areas. Given to an individual, organization or corporation for preserving, restoring, rehabilitating or adoptively using structures or grounds to enrich the historical significance of the DFW metropolitan areas.



Community Service Award: Kappa Alpha Theta Charity Designer Showhouse and Dallas Symphony Orchestra League For contribution to excellence of design in Dallas ond/or Fort Worth. Given to an individual, organization or institution in the DFW metropolitan area for projects improving design and/or quality of life within the communities.



Media Award: Mariana Greene, The Dallas Morning News For dissemination of information promoting excellence in design. Given to an individual, publication or other medio for improvement in quality of design in Dallas and/or Fort Worth through dissemination of information and/or support of ASID’s aims and purposes.



ASID Architecture Award: Lionel Morrison, FAIA For outstanding architecture in the Dallas or Fort Worth metropolitan oreo. Given to an AIA member for a project completed in the apst three years.



The O’Neill Ford Award: James Pratt, FAIA, Architecture – Urban Design For distinguished lifetime achievement in architecture. Given to a Dallas member of AIA who has exhibited integrity and ability in the field of architecture and elevated the level of design over a sustained career and who has been a mentor and inspiration to other architects.



The Achievement Awardees were nominated by the membership of the ASID Dallas Association and chosen from the following selection committee choired by Connie Roschlau, ASID; David Cadwalader, ASID; Floyd Davenport, ASID; Elaine Natestine, ASID; John Marrs, ASID; Jim Marstiller, ASID; Nancy Hamon; Raymond Nasher.



The Architectural Awardees were nominated by the membership of the ASID Association and chosen by the following committee: Max Levy, FAIA; Frank Welch, FAIA.
