TRANSPORTTATION
Dallas is best seen by car, but you can get by without one if you are staying downtown or at one of the large hotels. Taxis and private shuttles are available to and from D/FW International Airport and Love Field. Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) buses also run between downtown and Love Field.
For the most part, other DART routes go to and from downtown and around downtown: fare is $1 for local service, $2 for premium service. Light-rail lines also run from downtown Dallas north to Park Lane and to South and West Oak Cliff. Call 214-979-1111 for information.
If you are driving, construction on U.S. Highway 75 (North Central Expressway) is ongoing, seemingly forever, south of Walnut Hill Lane. For lane closing and construction information on area mads, call 214-374-4100.
Bus service in Fort Worth is operated by The T. Buses around downtown are free, and the fare on other routes around the city is 80 cents. Call 817-871-6200 for schedules and information.
GRAY LINE TOURS; 214-630-1000
Dallas tours available seven days a week; pick-uptimes vary by hotel, starting at 8 a.m. Dallas city tours are in the morning; JFK-Historical District tours are in the afternoon. Southfork Ranch tours are offered Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons. Gray Line offers no Fort Worth tours.
AIRPORTS
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is located on State Highway 183 about 25 minutes from the downtown area of either Dallas or Fort Worth. Taxi service ($25 to $35 from D/FW to either downtown) is available on the upper level; all other forms of ground transportation, including hotel shuttles, depart from the lower level. Terminal-to-terminal transfer is available via bus and tram from the lower level. Parking can be found at terminal garages, in the infield garage and in remote lots. For information on parking, call 972-574-7275.
Call the D/FW Travelers’ Assistance office at 972-574-4420 for help with travel problems, including emergencies and military travel. This office also rents baby car seats to travelers and can handle social service problems such as runaways and battered women.

Concierge Tip of the Month
Martha Richey, concierge at The Mansion on Turtle Creek, suggests a limousine drive to Fair Park where the Dallas Aquarium and superb museums attract crowds year-round. This month, kids and adults alike will enjoy Dallas Summer Musical’s “Beauty and the Beast” at the Fair Park Music Hall. Or, beginning Sept. 26, visit The State Fair of Texas where great food and entertainment wait-from Fletcher’s corny dogs to ’98 model cars.
