THUMBS UP to Addison Mayor Richard Beckert and his staff and to Robert Shaw, president of Columbus Realty Trust and a major developer of Dallas’ State-Thomas area, for their ambitious plan to build 4,000 housing units on 70 acres near Airport Parkway and Arapaho Road. The Addison Circle plan also calls for more office and retail space to be concentrated there. Fearing that the suburb will become, like downtown Dallas, the hole in the doughnut as growth surges northward, Beckert wants more people living and working-not just eating, drinking, and partying-in Addison. The community’s foresight is admirable-and, let’s hope, an object lesson to its larger urban neighbor.
