This two-hour documentary is the comprehensive story of the collision of these two quintessential^ American characters.

Making Sense of the Middle East

Marking the fifth anniversary of the war in the Persian Gulf, this two-part special investigates what really happened during the invasion of Kuwait, the months of diplomatic maneuvering, the air war and ground assault, and the post-war rebellion inside Iraq. Among those interviewed are Norman Schwarzkopf, Colin Powell, James Baker, Richard Cheney, Margaret Thatcher, Mikhail Gorbachev, Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, Jordan’s King Hussein and Israeli premier Yitzahk Shamir.

It’s Debatable

For four days this month, 600 citizens-a scientifically selected representative sample of the American populace-will gather at The University of Texas in Austin. Their purpose: to discuss and debate the key issues and values that shape U.S. public policy and to question the 1996 presidential candidates about those issues. Jim Lehrer will moderate PBS’s coverage of this unprecedented gathering of politicians and the people they serve.

INCREASE THE P E A C E HELP-A-THON

Town-hall forums have proven to be an effective means of initiating dialogue and opening the way toward resolving problems. In this hour-long special-part of KERA’s continuing Increase the Peace campaign to reduce youth violence-city officials will come face to face with young people in an effort to confront and seek solutions to the issues of violence that are jeopardizing the safety of our communities and the future of our children.
