Dallas: America’s Guinea Pig

|

It’s not your imagination. You do answer more phone surveys, take part in more focus groups, and buy more test products that are not available anywhere else. Dallasites are the national guinea pigs when it comes to helping companies decide what products to unleash on the rest of the country.

You can thank-or blame- the region’s hundreds of marketing firms-those companies that make it impossible to eat dinner without getting up to participate in yet another telephone survey. And the big national firms in New York, Chicago, and L.A. have your number too.

But why do we get so many calls? Are we smarter? Richer? More willing to try something new?

Or maybe it’s that old Texas hospitality-we’re just cordial enough to actually stay on the line long enough to finish a 20-minute phone survey.
