As State GOP Chairman, Tom Pauken knows how to make enemies. As a budding author, he seems to know how to make friends. At a recent Washington party celebrating his new book, The Thirty Years War: The Politics of the Sixties Generation, none other than Marion Barry, once and present D.C. Mayor, televised coke snorter, and former convict, lined up for Pauken’s autograph. What do the two men have in common? “We were in the war together,” answers Pauken with a laugh. “Just on different sides.”
