Nine experts. A classroom of whiz kids from UNT. More than 100 D Magazine readers. All armed with mythical stock portfolios and racing through the potholes, plateaus, and peaks of the ever-changing market.
At the close of the first quarter D’s stock market race showed readers outpacing the experts. In first place is Jodi Lutz of Irving, whose portfolio is up 49 percent thanks mainly to phenomenal growth fay Maxus Energy (up 76 percent) and Wireless Telecom (up 70 percent). Lutz’s other picks include software producers Applix and MECC and biotech giant Biogen, Inc.
Last mon th’sfront-runner, Peter Warren of Irving, has dropped to second place, though his portfolio, which also includes Wireless, is up 32 percent.
Farther back in the field are the experts, led by Mark Johnson of Eagle Financial Planning, whose portfolio is up 16 percent.
In last place is a reader (we’ll keep him anonymous-for now) who put his money in the Mexican market. He’s down 20 percent. iQue lastima!
