African American Museum. This museum explores the African-American experience through historical artifacts and art in tow galleries. 3536 Grand Avenue. Fair Park. 565-9026.

Age of Steam Railroad Museum. See what life was like before planes swept us all away. Fair Park. 428-0101.

Amon Carter Museum. The Anion Carter Museum provides an overview of 150 years of American art, including 19th-century landscapes by Thomas Cole and Winslow Homer. the modern abstractions of Georgia O’Keeffe and Stuart Davis, and a major collection of works by Frederick Remington and Charles Russell. 3501 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth. 817-738-1933.

Dallas Memorial Center for Holocaust Studies. The museum holds a large collection of holocaust photographs, artifacts and documentary films, as well as videos of interviews with local survivors. 7900 Northaven. 750-4654.

Dallas Museum of Art. The DMA boasts a varied collection containing some 17,000 works, including pre-Columbian, African, and post-World War II American art objects. 1717 N. Harwood at the intersection of St Paul & Woodall Rogers. 922-1200.

Dallas Museum of Natural History. Find out who hunts whom and who burrows while others climb. Stare straight at the past and the reconstruction of a Texas Tenontosaur, a 90-million-year-old Protostega sea turtle, and a Mosasaur. State Fair Grounds. Fan Park. 670-8457.

Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. An extensive collection covers everything from dinosaurs, human physiology, and geology to the history of medicine and computers. Also houses the Noble Planetarium and the Omni Theater. 1501 Montgomery, Fort Worth, Metro817-654-1356.

Frontiers of Flight Museum. In the main terminal lobby of Love Field, this exhibit contains historical artifacts from the earliest attempts at manned flight through the modem space age. Love Field Terminal LB38.3 50-3600.

Heard Natural Science Museum. For outdoorsy types, the Heard offers exhibits. lours, and Bails with an emphasis on the natural history of North Central Texas Located south of McKinney on FM 1378. Metro 562-5566; wildflower hot line 214-542-1947.

Heritage Farmstead Museum. This 1891 Plano farmstead has withstood the test of time, and today it offers a rare visit into the past. 1900 W, 15th St., Plano. 424-7874.

Kimbell Museum. One of the most outstanding museums in the United States. The permanent collection here features European masterpieces as well as selected examples of Egyptian, Greek, pre-Columbian, African, and Asian .in. Log Cabin Village. Turn the clock back to the frontier days. Seven pioneer cabins, all built in the 1850s, make up this rustic neighborhood. University Drive and Log Cabin Lane, Fort Worth. 817-926-5881.

Meadows Museum. The museum’s permanent collection includes Spanish art from the 15th to the 20th century, and pieces by Picasso, Murillo. Rivera. Miro, and Goya. SMU campus in the Owen Fine Arts Center on Bishop Boulevard. 768-2516.

Modem Art Museum of Fort Worth. The emphasis here is on 20th-century European and American art in all media- Permanent collection has 2,000 pieces. This was Texas’ first art museum, chartered in 1892. 1309 Montgomery, Fort Worth. Metro 817-738-9215.

National Museum of Communication. This museum is home to one of the largest exhibits of the history of communication in the world. See vintage radios, televisions, and phonographs along with sentimental items such as the microphone used by Walter Cronkite in his final newscast and Charlie Chaplin’s movie camera. The Sixth Floor Museum: John F. Kennedy and the Memory of a Nation. Located on the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald hid on November 22, 1963. this museum focuses on the presidency of John F.
