As D Magazine’s Wall Street Marathon reaches its first milestone this month, some early leaders have emerged.
Out front is D reader Peter Warren of Grand Prairie, whose portfolio of five stocks is up 19 percent since the race began in January. Warren’s stock selections include Gainsco, Incorporated, MRV Communications, Wireless Telecom, and Cyrix Corporation. But Warren’s great leap forward came from Wellcome PLC, a pharmaceutical company whose stock went from 10 3/4 to an amazing 16.
Only one of the nine stock ex-pens who entered the race is in the top three: Anita Mills-Berry, whose portfolio is up 17.9 percent.
The race already poses some intriguing questions: Who is Peter Warren and will his early lead hold? Will our experts be able to pick up the pace ? Check this space next month for an update.
Meanwhile, to see how all the participants are faring, online readers can use their modems to dial the stock fantasy cyber world of the Investment Club USA bulletin board at 214-320-0955.
