Christianity is more than a matter of faith for Rocky Hambric, president of the Dallas-based sports management firm Cornerstone Sports Inc.
It all started in 1975 when Hambric, who was working as a CPA, met Larry Nelson, a Christian golfer on die PGA Tour. The two became friends, and Nelson brought Hambric into the tour’s bible study group. When Hambric launched his management career, he quickly signed top Christian golfers like Bob Tway (1986 PGA champion) and Larry Mize (1987 Masters champion).
Last summer Hambric signed Phil Mickelson, who’s been dubbed the next Jack Nicklaus, after a duel with IMG, the world’s largest sports management firm.
“We don’t consider ourselves a company formed to represent Christian players on tour or a company that only employs Christians,” Hambric says. “I don’t think the Christian faith is a country club. It’s more of an ethi cal thing that dictates how I conduct business.” So far. that credo seems to be working.
