Roads Most Traveled

|

Since 1952, Dallas motorists have relied on MAPSCO street guides to pilot them through this city’s ever-growing web of roadways. The familiar grid system is used in everything from department store delivery forms to real estate listings. But have you ever wondered what page people use the most?

“That’s easy,” says Kevin Geary, manager of MAPSCO’s Maple Avenue store. “Page 45-it shows part of Oak Lawn and all the one-way streets downtown.” Geary knows this mapping minutiae because “everybody loses that page; they use it so much it rips out.” Motorists frequently drop in on MAPSCO’s home office seeking to buy a new page 45, or wanting someone to repair the dismembered page and reattach it.

“We can’t do either,” Geary says. “We’ve considered laminating the pages, but me book would be too bulky. Only thing to do is tape it back in place.. .or buy a new MAPSCO.”

By the way, the second most popular page is a lie between page 14, detailing North Dallas Parkway around the Galleria, and page 2IB. showing Las Colinas.
