On Oct. 6, 1959, 10,437 Dallas and Tarrant county voters opted to build a $9-5 million, 45,000-seat baseball stadium somewhere between the two cities. The facility, first called Turnpike Stadium and used for minor-league play, is now the home (for one season) of the Texas Rangers.
