STYLE Alternative Evenings

When Michael Kors debuted his first menswear collection this fall, it was no surprise to find that it mirrored his modernist’s clothing for women: clean, lean silhouettes with the accent on attitude and luxe fabrication. In part, it’s that very no-fluff attention to detail tailoring that has endeared Kors and his clothes to Dallas women who want an alternative to ruffles and flourishes. But Kors’ alternative tact toward dressing for after dark could be what wins the hearts of Dallas men this winter. Placing tongue firmly in chic, Kors has had some fun with the traditionalists’ take on formalwear. Though there is a tux in the line. Kors does it in banker’s gray flannel and denim. For the truly wild at heart, there’s even a gold lamé evening jacket that may not be full-tilt Elvis, but at least nods to rock ’n’ roll. A safer bet perhaps is Kors’ body-tit black velvet waistcoat and slim, cigarette-cut pant. Placed beneath a gentleman’s own tux jacket, under a black leather jacket or even snuggled beneath a well-worn jean jacket, it’s a look destined for quieter accolades of the feminine kind.
