Native Dallas

By D Magazine |

OK, almost everybody knows Dallas is the birthplace of Aaron Spelling, Spud Webb, Stephen Stills, Morgan Fairchild and Barney the Dinosaur; home of Haggar slacks, Liquid Paper, Southwest Airlines and I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt; and the inspirational breeding ground of everyone from Ray Charles to Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians. With this issue, we attempt to dig even deeper for the definitive Native Dallas-its most memorable people, institutions, ideas and products. We’ve focused on the living rather than the dead, although such things as Big Hair and Top 40 radio are neither.

But they are Dallas born and bred, and they’re part of this package. How deep and wide are our Native Dallas roots? You will be surprised. We’re also sure you’ll tell us what we overlooked.
