PRESIDENT’S MEMO

|

Last fall, I received a letter from one of our Channel 13 members who had anticipated the highly publicized telecast of the Metropolitan Opera Silver An niversary Gala. The Metropolitan Opera had chosen to air the program as a pay-per-view through Cablevision rather than broadcast it as usual on public television. Our viewer was disappointed to learn that the pay-per-view broadcast would not be available to local audiences and inquired about an encore presentation of the gala on public television.

Well, I am happy to inform everyone who missed this special event that the Metropolitan Opera Silver Anniversary Gala will air Sunday, March 15, at 2:30 p.m. on Channel 13. This three-hour celebration features a galaxy of opera’s greatest stars, including Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, among many others.

KERA is bringing this concert, along with our other quality programs, free of charge to all the living rooms in our North Texas viewing area.

The need for public television’s services is growing. KERA Channel 13 and KDTN Channel 2 may be the only way many families will see a play, opera, dance or concert this year. Thanks to the continued generosity of our members, we can put the best of the world’s cultural achievements within everyone’s reach.

This month marks an important time for us at KERA – our March pledge drive. We feel membership in KERA returns big dividends on small investments. We appreciate your past support and hope you’ll agree with us when we say, “It’s time to continue your support of Channel 13 and our partnership that produces ’TV worth watching.’ “

Best wishe,

Richard J. Meyer
