CITY SECRET FORT worth When you want a quick “I’ve got to get out of town” fix, go west to Fort Worth. Drive through the red-bricked streets downtown and wander around the Stockyards. See the Botanical Gardens, or take in one of the city’s world-reknowned museums including the Amon Carter, the Kimbell, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History with its Omni Theater. Afterward, head to Joe T. Garcia’s for one of the restaurant’s famous Tex-Mex meals SECRET CITY SECRET WHERE THE COWBOYS ARC You won’t find many in the touristy Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth. Instead, go to some of the area’s real honky-tonks-Cowboys on Gaston, Three Teardrops Tavern on N. Industrial Blvd. or the White Elephant Saloon in Fort Worth. For authentic Western duds, head over to Shepler’s in Mesquite or Arlington.

PARKS, ZOOS & GARDENS

From roller coasters to roaring lions, Dallas-area parks, zoos and gardens offer something for just about everyone. Or pack a picnic lunch and head for one of the city’s 300-plus parks.

CITY SECRET KIDSV1LLE. Parents tout the Kidsville playground in Armstrong Park in Duncanville as one of the best in the area. Designed by children and built by the citizens of Duncanville, Kidsville is a public park and the largest volunteer-made playground in the world, With castles, tunnels and a safety town where kids drive battery-powered cars down miniature streets, there’s always plenty to do. Located in the 200 block of James Collins Blvd. and Main St. (780-5070).
