In an emotionally charged election, Dallas voters on August 6, I960, rejected school Integration by a 4 to 1 margin. Of the 37,324 votes cast, only 7,416 supported the order of federal District Judge T. Whitfield Davidson. However, the vote had no binding power; It was a “barometer of public opinion,” the judge said.
