When the city council’s ex-ecutive committee offered Hart a 4. 7 percent increase for next year, which would have boosted her salary past $139, 000, Hart said she wanted the same 3. 3 percent hike given the average city employee. The monetary difference is small, but in a time of grave fiscal austerity for the city, this is a welcome symbolic gesture.
