THUMBS UP to Dallas mayor ANNETTE STRAUSS for her forceful leadership on behalf of the ill-fated 14-1 campaign. The initiative’s failure by a few hundred votes cannot be blamed on Strauss, who touted the proposed council reform with surprising spunk and aggressiveness. The mayor has always been full of compassion and good intentions; in the 14-1 battle, she found the assertive voice and debater’s zeal she has sometimes lacked in the past.
