Introducing The New Methodist Medical Center. where miracles do happen. And new signs of life are forever on the horizon.
By D Magazine |

Methodist Medical Center has been building on its fine reputation of outstanding healthcare for more than 60 years. Now, with the completion of a $75. 5 million building program, Methodist has positioned itself for the 21st century and beyond.

Conveniently located just southwest of downtown Dallas, The New Methodist Medical Center has made room for some of the most sophisticated healthcare technology available. Behind its new walls, you’ll find everything from the latest in cancer treatment to the most compassionate mental healthcare, all of which has been supported with select programs and services, designed to treat the patient as a whole.

Every detail, every need and every square foot of the renewed Methodist Medical Center were carefully considered. The parkway entrance from Beckley Avenue and circular drive are as beautiful as they are functional. Every design decision was made to accommodate patients and their families.

With that in mind, people from around the world and throughout North Texas are turning to The New Methodist Medical Center for answers. And today, these answers are closer than ever before.

A Place For Healing

For those who treat the total human condition, the challenge is a question of both insight and technology. And nowhere is the marriage of the two more evident than beneath the shimmering cross of Methodist Medical Center’s new 11-story patient tower.

At the heart of this 326, 000-square-foot tower is an elevator system that will speed you to new levels of healthcare. You’ll find 288 private rooms complementing the 463 total beds in the Medical Center. In addition, you’ll find a new transplant center to support this internationally recognized program, nursing units for psychiatric care and medical/ surgical treatment, an advanced oncology unit, complete laboratory and physical medicine facilities and a full array of maternity-related services.

No matter what your medical needs, you’ll be greeted by physicians, nurses, technicians and other specialists who share a steadfast commitment to the human spirit. For healing comes as much from the heart as from the mind of medicine.

A New Center Of Attention

A short walk from the new tower’s spacious lobby will take you to the two professional office buildings, and place you among some of the finest minds in medicine. From their private offices in Pavilions I and II, our physicians have access to a vast array of medical resources, all conveniently located to meet the changing medical needs of their patients. These skilled physicians are the heart of our teaching and referral programs.

The second and third floors of the new nine-story Pavilion II also house the Methodist Outpatient Center. The first level of the 38, 400 square-foot Center contains patient registration and many diagnostic services. On the second level is the day surgery center with 18 private patient rooms and four operating suites equipped for the latest in laser, endoscopic and surgical procedures.

Signs Of Renewed Hope

Recognized as an “institute of quality” by several major insurance companies and managed care organizations. The New Methodist Medical Center is a teaching hospital with a proud tradition of finding new ways of improving life.

Centered around a state-of-the-art tissue-typing laboratory, our kidney transplant program has grown to become one of the largest in the nation, having successfully performed more than 1, 000 transplants at a success rate exceeding the national average. This expertise has also led to the development of the area’s only pancreas transplantation program, one of the newest and most promising alternatives for the treatment of diabetes.

The Methodist Heart Center has long been one of the most comprehensive in the area. It provides a wide variety of services for cardiac patients, including early evaluation, medical or surgical treatment, transplantation and outpatient rehabilitation. The Heart Center also offers the medically oriented fitness and recuperative programs of the Folsom Fitness and Rehabilitation Center, nestled in a wooded park along the northern edge of the Methodist campus.

The new Methodist Cancer Center, located on the ground level between Pavilion II and the new tower, offers advanced treatment services in a comfortable setting for both inpatients and outpatients. Comprehensive treatments include chemotherapy, surgical intervention and radiation therapy, and with the addition of two new computer-assisted linear accelerators, the center is able to offer complete therapies for all cancers.

These programs, like many others at The New Methodist Medical Center, are part of a dedicated search for new ways to a longer and fuller life.

The Women’s Center also houses the Fred and Gayle Oakley Osteoporosis Center. There, you’ll find the technology needed to diagnose this bone-crippling disease that affects both women and men.

Miracles Do Happen

Postpartum rooms have been given a homelike feel and tremendous views of downtown Dallas and the lovely Kessler Park neighborhood. Family members are encouraged to spend as much time with their new baby as possible. Fathers may even choose to stay the night Every hospital’s ultimate goal is a normal birth. Unfortunately that isn’t always the case. Staffed by more than 25 specialists, including perinatologists, neonatologists and pediatric surgeons, Methodist Medical Center serves a referral network for more than 30 hospitals, providing education and expertise in high-risk obstetrics and perinatal care.

Our Special Care Nursery is a Level III perinatal unit, the highest medical rating for the treatment of critically ill newboms. For you, that simply means we’re fully staffed and equipped for those infants requiring special care and attention. The birth of a child is nothing short of miraculous. If you’re expecting a miracle, able hands are closer than you think.

Answers Within Reach

When lives are on the line. CareFlite is in the air. Staffed by a crew of medical emergency experts and received at a full-service heliport atop Pavilion II, the CareFlite helicopters can literally be the determining factor in life or death situations. This extraordinary commitment to service and leadership is but another example of the ongoing mission of Methodist Medical Center.

The Meaning Behind Our Mission

Healthcare is a ministry that began in the church, a ministry that continues today inside the walls of Methodist Medical Center.

The mission of Methodist Medical Center is to serve the public’s health needs effectively and in a manner which reflects a commitment to Christian concepts of life and giving. These objectives are defined in the Covenant between Methodist Hospitals of Dallas and the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. We feel that this spirit is embodied in our staff and in the many volunteers who willfully support Methodist in their faithful work. We are also thankful that the Christian message of comfort and healing can be spread through a newly constructed chapel at Methodist.

At the heart of this concept of body and soul lies the Dallas Methodist Hospitals Foundation. The Foundation is a private, charitable support organization that provides all three Methodist Hospitals of Dallas with critical funding.

Methodist Medical Center has undergone many dynamic changes. Each one designed to maximize the proficiencies of our medical staff and employees, and extend our mission into the future.
