THUMBS UP to city manager Jan hart for her adroit handling of the sorry MACK VINES affair. Despite cries of racism from the Marion Barry wing of the local black leadership, Hart kept the city’s attention focused on the real issue: allegations that the police chief tampered with a panel investigating the PATRICK LEMAIRE firing. As for Vines, his last-ditch PR campaign, a pathetic attempt to demonstrate his humanity, was too tittle, too late, and sadly beside the point.
