Community Council of Greater Dallas. 741-5851. Offers a 24-hour information and referral telephone line, 747-3711 or 1-800-548-1873, as well as an aging information line, 741-5244, Can handle a variety of problems and questions on topics including health, human services, recreation, and welfare.

Dallas Concilio of Hispanic Service Organizations. 638-2588. A planning and coordinating agency that assists other nonprofit organizations in helping Hispanics and provides training on how to reach out to the Hispanic community.

Dallas Dance Council. 622 Bondstone Drive, 75218. 328-5901, 348-4116. Works to support (heater dance in the area. Supports all forms of dance, represents the dance community, and serves as a central information agency for dance

Dallas Historical Society. Texas Hall of Stale, P.O. Box 26038, 75226. 421-4500. Maintains library, archives, and museum of local history. Provides special programs, including films and lectures.

Dallas Museum of Art League. 1717 N. Harwood, 75201. 922-1200, ext. 249. The Museum League and the PM League are the volunteer/service arms of the museum, with a combined membership of more than 1,400 and 600 active volunteers. Activities include an annual fundraising Beaux Art- Ball, art-related trips, study courses, and lectures. The PM league is for professional members whose volunteer work and events are planned for evenings and weekends.

Dallas Summer Musicals Guild. P.O. Box 26188, 75226. 565-1116. A support group that gives parties for performing casts and benefactors, raises money, and encourages enthusiasm for the Summer Musicals.

Dallas Symphony Association Inc. 2301 Flora St., Suite 300, 75201-2413. Dedicated to the operations of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Activities include classical and pop concerts, concerts in the park, recitals, youth and handicapped concerts, and an international summer festival.

Dallas Zoo Docents. 621 E. Clarendon, 75203. 943-3110. A highly trained group of volunteers who work with the education department to help educate the public on conservation and wildlife preservation.

Dallas Zoological Society. 621 E. Clarendon, 75203, 943-2771. A support group for the Dallas Zoo. Membership benefits include free admission to the zoo, invitations to parties at the zoo, free parking, and a 10 percent discount at the Dallas Zoo Gift Shop.

Friends of Fair Park. The Magnolia Lounge at Fair Park. 426-3400. A fundraising support group for Fair Park that has sponsored projects like the brick walkway at the park known as the Texas Promenade and the restoration of the Magnolia Lounge. They are also doing fundraising projects for restoration of the Fair Park murals, and they serve as a political advocacy group for Fair Park entities.

Historic Preservation League. 2902 Swiss Ave., 75204-9990. 821-3290. Seeks to identify, protect, rehabilitate, and/or find new uses for Dallas’s historical, architectural, and cultural resources (including buildings, sites, and districts), to conserve the character of Dallas’s important older neighborhoods, and to educate the public and elected officials on preservation issues.

Junior Black Academy of Arts and Letters Inc. 650 S. Griffin at the Dallas Convention Center, 75202. 658-7144. Sponsors classes in literary, visual, and performing arts. Produces performances such as Writer’s Showcases and the Jazz Bust in spring, fall, and summer that are open to the public.

League of Women Voters. 2720 Stemmons Frwy., Suite 510, Stemmons Tower South, 75207. 688-4125. The league is an organization of men and women working to educate citizens and encourage their participation in government. The league studies issues and takes action on those issues, It is a nonpartisan organization that does not support one particular candidate or one particular party. The league operate on the local, state, and national level with approximately 600 members in the Dallas area.

Literacy Volunteer* of America/Dallas. 1515 Young St., 75201. 670-7836. One-on-one tutoring to adults 16 and older who read at the 5th-grade level or below.

National Council of Negro Women. 946-9448, Community-based organization that works with 29 different affiliated agencies, helping people to help themselves. Offers scholar-ships to students.

Senior Citizens of Greater Dallas. 2905 Swiss Ave., 75204. 823-5700. Places citizen* 60 and older in volunteer positions for nonprofit organizations in Dallas County.

Volunteer Center of Dallas. 1215 Skiles St.. 75204. 744-1194. The center recruits and refers volunteers for about 650 civic, cultural, and human-needs organizations. It lists about 4000 volunteer jobs.
